Lower Eyelid Lift
Offered at our convenient location in Hamburg
A lower eyelid lift is a surgical solution to erase the signs of aging around the under eyes – most notably puffy eyebags. No matter how many skincare products we religiously use or how delicately we treat our skin, under eye bags are a common sign of aging for many people all over the world. In fact, eyelid surgery was one of the top five most performed plastic surgery procedures in Germany in 2020.[1] While other treatments promise similar results, a lower eyelid lift is one of the only approaches that ensures a longer-lasting, refreshed, awakened appearance. Come and see for yourself just how a lower eyelid lift can diminish this sign of aging from your face.
Here at Plastische Chirurgie am Klosterstern, Dr. Dalia Tobbia and her expert team are committed to giving you a welcoming, comfortable experience from consultation to your last follow-up appointment. Why A Lower Eyelid Lift?
As we age, there can be quite a few changes in the lower eyelid. These changes can include skin laxity, puffiness, under eye bags, under eye circles, wrinkles, or just a universally tired look.[2] However, those can be corrected with an eyelid lift. After Dr. Dalia Tobbia makes a little incision around the crease of the eyelid, the skin is pulled away and the excess fatty tissue that is causing the puffiness is removed. If the skin is wrinkled or lax, she will smooth and tighten the area. Then, she will remove the excess skin and stitch up the incisions.
Benefits
Patients who elect to have a lower eyelid lift experience:
- A refreshed, alert appearance
- A quick rejuvenation procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia
- A revitalizing surgery that offers a fairly easy, straightforward recovery process
Candidates
A lower eyelid lift is perfect for patients who wish to see a younger, more refreshed self every time they look in the mirror. While some younger people experience puffiness around their eyes, most of our candidates fall between the ages of 30s-60s, as this is the time in life when skin waning skin elasticity becomes the most apparent.
Lower eyelid surgery may not be suitable for patients who are smokers and who are not already leading a healthy, active lifestyle. In addition, it may not be suitable for patients with pre-existing conditions such as glaucoma or diabetes, as these can interfere with the body’s ability to heal post-surgery.
Personal Consultation
During your personal consultation in Hamburg, you will meet privately with Dr. Dalia Tobbia to first review your recent surgical and medical history. Dr. Dalia will inquire about your ophthalmologic history. This will include the current state of your vision, corrective lenses, trauma, glaucoma, allergic reactions, excess tearing, and dry eyes.[2] If you have had surgery in the periorbital region in the last six months, you might have to wait a little while to be approved for this surgery.
Next, she will perform a physical exam and validate that you’re healthy enough to undergo surgery, Dr. Dalia Tobbia will examine your own unique facial and orbital features. Your safety and satisfaction are paramount to us, so please feel free to express any questions or concerns. Then, she will examine your lower eyelids, noting the skin’s elasticity as well as the bags or under eye circles. Finally, if a lower eyelid lift is what she deems is best, a time and date will be scheduled for your procedure.
Before you leave, we will give you a list of preparatory steps to follow between now and the day of your procedure. It is important to follow these to ensure a smooth surgery with optimal results.
Preparation
Before your lower eyelid lift it is important to:
- Quit smoking for at least 3 weeks before your procedure. This is because nicotine is known to cause blood flow issues and may lead to excessive bleeding during your procedure.
- Avoid blood thinning medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin as these may also cause excessive bleeding during your procedure and may severely hamper the recovery process.
- Plan a ride home. You will not be able to drive yourself home from your surgery so it is best to designate a caregiver prior to your surgery date.
Procedure
A lower eyelid lift can be performed under local or general anesthesia. Depending on the amount of necessary work for your individualized procedure, your lower eyelid lift will take at most 2 hours.
With an incision made around the eyelid crease, just under the eyelashes, Dr. Dalia is able to remove the excess fat and skin tissue that is causing the puffy problems beneath the eye. Once the incision is made, Dr. Dalia can cut away the puffy fat under the surface and trim away any excess skin. Once the desired tissue is removed, Dr. Dalia will stitch up the incisions and you will be able to go home to begin the recovery process.
Recovery
During your recovery, it is important to avoid any and all strenuous activities as well as prolonged exposure to the sun. Our patients generally report feeling soreness and tightness around their eyes. During the first few days of recovery, bruising and swelling are normal. These symptoms usually subside in 7-10 days.
Results
As time goes by and the swelling subsides, you will start to notice a more awakened, alert-looking you. Now, you will be able to appear exactly how you feel: refreshed, rejuvenated, and revived.
Corresponding & Complementary Procedures
Now that you’ve seen the incredible results we here at Plastische Chirurgie are capable of, you might wonder if there’s another procedure that’s also just right for your needs. Some other procedures that are perfectly paired to complement a lower eyelid lift are:
Upper Eyelid Lift
To correct the other half of your eyes, an upper eyelid lift is perfect at removing droopy, excess fat and skin from the top of your eye. Many patients attribute their tired appearance to the lax skin atop their eyes. In more severe cases, this can also obstruct your field of vision. With an upper eyelid lift alone or paired with a lower eyelid lift, you can receive a refreshed, youthful look. By making an incision around the crease of the eyelid, much like with the lower eyelid lift, Dr. Dalia is able to remove excess tissue and keep any scarring virtually invisible.
Brow Lift
Other signs of aging are: wrinkles around the forehead, a droopy brow, a permanent dejected expression. With a brow lift by Dr. Dalia Tobbia, all that can change. By pulling the skin and underlying muscles up, Dr. Dalia can give you a more alert, awakened look that can make you appear years younger. A brow lift is perfect for people who want their appearance to match how they feel on the inside.
Facelift
With time and age, the facial muscles and skin loosen, especially around our cheeks and jawline. However, with a facelift, Dr. Dalia can restore and enhance your face’s natural beauty. By making a couple discreet incisions around your hairline and ears, Dr. Dalia can tighten skin, realign key facial muscles, and turn back the hands of time for your appearance.

FAQ
How long does it take to recover from lower eyelid surgery?
After your lower eyelid lift, your stitches will be removed within 5-7 days. It is important at this time to focus on proper healing and recovery. For the next week, it is recommended to avoid any strenuous activities. For the next 2-3 weeks, it is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure or extreme heat around your eyes.
Is lower eyelid surgery painful?
After local anesthesia is administered, your lower eyelid lift should only result in minimal discomfort on the day of your procedure and even less pain thereafter. For many patients, this is seen as being among the least painful, most transformative plastic surgery procedures.
